What is The Avenue West Lafayette?
It’s an extended apartment community designed especially with Purdue University students in mind. The Avenue features a variety of spacious, furnished apartments with available hardwood-style floors, Wi-Fi plus plug-in Internet with speeds up to 1 Gigabit, in-unit laundry and flat-panel TV, plus a full set of community features such as two fitness centers, indoor basketball courts, pools and hot tubs, tanning beds and more. All just minutes from Purdue, with its own bus directly to campus.
Is The Avenue part of Purdue University?
The Avenue is a privately owned and professionally managed community. Click here for more information about the management and ownership.
Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?
You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.
What are per-person contracts?
Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at The Avenue has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom.
What is included in the rate?
Each resident at The Avenue pays a flat rate that includes:
- A full set of furniture
- Wi-fi throughout the community, plus Ethernet in each bedroom with speeds up to 1 Gigabit
- Satellite TV service
- Flat-panel HDTV (42″ at The Avenue North, 50″ at The Avenue South)
- Water/sewer, trash removal
- Washer and dryer in each apartment
- 24-hour on-site management
- Community features — pools, fitness centers, tanning, etc.
- Free shuttle bus service to campus and downtown
How big are the apartments?
Apartments range from 1-bed studios and suites, to exceptionally large 3- and 4-bedroom apartments up to 1,700 square feet in size.
Are the apartments furnished?
Yes, all apartments at The Avenue include a furniture package including a full-size bed, dresser, desk and chair in each bedroom, a leather-style or microsuede sofa and lounge chair, coffee table and entertainment stand with flat-panel HDTV in each living room, plus a dining set or counter stools. To see a sample of the furniture and other finishes, please visit our model apartments.
When do the contracts start and end?
The standard term is August 17, 2018 to August 2, 2019, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Limited alternate dates may be available; please inquire with our staff.
Can I pay by credit card?
Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. The Avenue also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. There is a convenience fee for one-time online payments, but automatic recurring payments are always free.
Will my financial aid cover charges at The Avenue?
Your living costs at The Avenue can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at The Avenue. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.
Is The Avenue open to non-students?
Nearly all the residents at The Avenue are students at Purdue University and the per-person contracts are also designed with students in mind. Nonetheless, The Avenue is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. Family members are welcome as well, subject to occupancy limits. Because of the need to match student roommates, non-students must apply together with enough roommates to fill the desired apartment.
What kind of safety and security are provided?
The Avenue has monitored fire sprinklers, electronic locks and deadbolts on each front door, plus individually locking bedroom doors. Community courtesy patrols are provided at select times, plus security cameras are located in certain areas. Management staff are also on-site 24×7 and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.
What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?
The Avenue is pet-friendly in select buildings at The Avenue North, with required registration and fee, subject to limits on animals and breed; remaining buildings and all of The Avenue South are no-pets. The Avenue is a no-smoking community in all indoor areas. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of apartment-mates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests.
Can I park my vehicle at The Avenue?
The Avenue offers free surface parking for all residents, as well as optional reserved covered parking spaces at The Avenue South. Limited guest parking is also available at no charge.
What other transportation options will I have?
The Avenue offers dedicated CityBus service on weekdays when Purdue is in session, plus Saturday night and summer service. It’s just a 7 to 12 minute ride to campus. The bus arrives every 20 minutes from 7am through 5:30pm weekdays, continuing every 40 minutes until 9pm. Late-night bus service continues to campus and Walmart until 1:30am on Thursday and Friday nights. On Saturday night, the bus runs 9pm to 1:30am. Summer shuttles run in June and July.
